Vinyl windows are the most common replacement window in Minnesota because the frame never needs paint and the price per opening is lower than most other frame materials. The catch is that vinyl moves more with temperature than wood or fiberglass. A vinyl frame screwed tight, foamed with the wrong foam or caulked with no room to move will bow, bind and leak within a few winters.
So the install matters more than the logo. We shim at the right points, fasten through the frame without pulling it out of square, fill the gap with low-expansion window foam, and seal the outside with backer rod and sealant so the joint can flex. On a full-frame install the new unit sits in a sill pan with flashing tape lapped into the wall.
You choose the style (double hung, slider, casement, picture), color, glass package and grilles. We measure, order, install, haul the old windows away and trim out the inside. Painting is quoted as a separate line — or leave it primed and caulked and paint it yourself.

Situations and options
White vinyl
The standard frame color inside and out. Fastest to get and the easiest match if you are replacing only some of the windows in the house.
Colored exterior
Tan, clay, bronze or black on the outside with white inside. Dark exteriors on vinyl are made with a coating or laminate built to handle the heat; the color is picked when the order goes in.
Insert vs. full-frame vinyl
An insert sets inside the old frame and keeps your interior trim. A full-frame unit goes back to the studs with a sill pan and new trim. We tell you which each opening needs at the measure.

Why do some vinyl windows warp or bow after they are installed?
Usually the install, not the window. Vinyl expands and contracts with temperature, and a frame that is screwed too tight, foamed with high-expansion foam or caulked solid on all sides has nowhere to move. We shim at the manufacturer's points, use low-expansion window foam, and seal the outside with backer rod so the joint can flex.
Can you paint vinyl windows?
Painting a vinyl frame is not recommended by most makers, and dark paint on vinyl can make it overheat and warp. If you want a color, order the window with a factory color on the exterior. The wood trim around the window can be painted any color.
Are vinyl windows good in a Minnesota winter?
A well-made vinyl window with a good glass package does fine in Minnesota cold. How it performs depends as much on the install as the frame: foam in the gap, sealed joints and a flashed sill keep the drafts out. We go over glass options at the measure so you can compare them on the quote.
Do vinyl replacement windows keep my existing trim?
They can. An insert vinyl window sets inside the old frame, so the interior casing and stool stay. If the frame is rotted or out of square, a full-frame install with new trim is the better fix.
How long do vinyl windows take to get after I order?
Lead time depends on the manufacturer, the color and the glass. Standard white units come faster than colored or special-size ones. We give you the expected date when the order is placed and schedule the install once the windows are here.
Do you install only some vinyl windows, or does it have to be the whole house?
Any number. Many people replace the worst windows first and the rest later. We note the style, color and grille pattern on your job so the next round matches.
