Every set of blinds leaves a mark when it comes down. Inside-mount brackets leave two to four screw holes in the head jamb or the casing on each side. Outside-mount brackets leave holes in the face of the casing, and the bracket that was pried off instead of unscrewed takes a chip of wood with it. Plantation shutters are worse: a full frame screwed into the jamb on all four sides, sometimes twenty holes and a paint line where the frame sat. Add a dog that chewed the bottom of a casing leg, or a tenant who ripped the blinds down, and the trim is what every buyer or new tenant sees first.
There are two kinds of fix and the photos tell us which. Screw holes and small chips in paint-grade trim are filled with a hardening wood filler, sanded flush and spot-primed; done right they disappear under paint. Holes in stain-grade trim get a color-matched fill, which hides but never vanishes. A casing leg that is chewed, split along the grain, or has a hole bigger than a thumb is replaced: we cut the bad piece out at a joint, match the profile and put in a new piece. Replacing one leg is usually less than filling and sanding a wreck of one.

Two to six holes per window from inside- or outside-mount brackets. Filled with hardening wood filler, sanded flush, spot-primed. The fix for most of the windows in a house before listing.
Chewed or split casing leg
A dog, a pry bar or a tenant took a chunk out of the bottom of a leg. We cut the damaged length out, match the profile from stock or a piece from a closet, and splice or replace the whole leg so the joint is invisible under paint.
Shutter frames removed
A plantation shutter frame leaves a ring of holes on all four sides and a raised paint line where it sat. Holes filled, the paint line sanded feathered, the jamb and casing primed so a fresh coat reads flat.
Rental turnover, every window

How do you fill screw holes in window trim so they do not show?
On painted trim the holes get a hardening wood filler, not caulk or lightweight spackle, which shrinks and dents. It is pressed in, left proud, sanded flush and spot-primed so the filler does not flash through the paint. Done that way the holes disappear under a coat of paint. Caulk in a screw hole sinks within a few weeks and leaves a dimple.
Can holes from blinds be hidden on stained wood trim?
Hidden, not erased. A color-matched wax or putty fill blends the hole into oak or maple at a glance, but a close look finds it. When there are a lot of holes or the trim is a light species, replacing the drilled piece in the same species and staining it to match looks better. We tell you which one fits from your photos.
Is it cheaper to fill the damage or replace the casing?
Holes and small chips are cheaper to fill. A leg that is chewed, split along its length, or has a hole you can put a thumb in is cheaper to replace than to rebuild with filler and sanding, and it looks better. Most houses are a mix: filled holes on most windows and one or two replacement pieces.
My blinds were screwed into the drywall return and pulled out. Can you fix that?
Yes. Drywall-return windows have no wood at the head, so brackets screwed into the drywall tear out and leave a crater. We patch the drywall, and if the blinds are going back up we add a wood strip or blocking at the head so the new brackets go into something solid. Cracked corner bead at the same window is fixed in the same visit.
Can you do every window in the house before we list it?
Yes. Screw-hole repair on every window in a typical house is a day, left primed for the painter or painted by us as a separate line. Send a photo of each window that has damage and a count of the ones that are fine, and the quote covers the house. We also do the doors and baseboard nicks on the same visit if you want the whole punch list handled.
Will you hang the new blinds after the trim is repaired?
Yes. Repair first, then the blinds go up into the jamb or solid backing so the brackets do not pull the next time someone yanks the cord. Bring the blinds you bought or have us supply a standard set. Hanging them is priced per window on the same quote.
