An outdoor TV lives a different life than one in the family room. It hangs on a post or a porch wall that moves in the wind, it gets rain blown sideways and it sits below freezing for five months. The mount has to be an outdoor-rated one, stainless or coated so it does not streak rust down the siding, and it has to be lagged into something solid: a 6x6 post, a beam, a stud in the house wall, or blocking we add between the posts. A drywall anchor is not part of this job.
The TV itself is your choice. A true outdoor TV is built for it and can go under an open roof. An indoor TV lasts under a deck or in a screen porch only if it is fully covered, out of direct spray, and taken down or covered for the winter; we say so plainly before you buy. Under a deck we also look at how the deck drains, because a TV mounted under a joist bay that drips is a TV that dies in a year.
Power and signal are the part people forget. We run the HDMI and power cable in outdoor conduit or through the wall to the nearest inside outlet and seal every hole. When the spot needs a new outdoor outlet, a licensed electrician adds it and it goes on the quote as their line. A streaming stick or a small box in a weatherproof enclosure keeps the cable run short.

Situations and options
Covered patio or screen porch wall
The TV mounts into the studs of the house wall or the porch framing, the cable goes through the wall to an inside outlet, and a tilt mount aims it down at the seating.
Under the deck
Mounted to the joists or a beam of the deck above, or to the house wall. We check where the deck drips and add a drip panel above the TV when the boards above are not sealed or there is no under-deck ceiling.
Post-mounted on an open patio
A 4x4 or 6x6 post set for the TV, or blocking between two existing posts, with the cable run in conduit down the post. Needs an outdoor-rated TV; an indoor set will not survive open weather.
Full-motion arm for a pool or yard view
An outdoor-rated articulating arm so the TV swings out from the porch wall to face the yard and folds flat against the wall when not in use.

Can I mount a regular indoor TV outside?
Under a fully covered deck or in a screen porch, out of direct rain and sun, yes, and many people do. It will not last as long as an outdoor-rated TV, the picture washes out in daylight, and it should come down or get a fitted cover for the winter. Open patios and post mounts need a true outdoor TV. We tell you which your spot is before you buy.
What kind of TV mount works outside?
An outdoor-rated mount with stainless or powder-coated steel and sealed pivots. A standard indoor mount rusts at the bolts and streaks the siding within a season. We stock outdoor tilt and full-motion mounts, or install the one you bought if it is rated for outside, lagged into a post, beam or stud rather than an anchor.
How do you get power to an outdoor TV?
We run the power cord and HDMI in outdoor conduit or through the wall to the closest inside outlet and seal the holes. If there is no outlet close enough, a licensed electrician adds a weather-resistant outdoor outlet with a cover, and it is on the quote as a separate line. We do not run extension cords across a deck.
Can you mount a TV under a deck?
Yes. The mount goes into the deck joists, a beam or the house wall. The thing to check is water: gaps between deck boards drip straight down. If there is no under-deck ceiling, we add a small drip panel above the TV or shift the TV to a dry bay. The cable runs up into the joist space and into the house.
How high should an outdoor TV be mounted?
Lower than most people think. For seated viewing on a patio the center of the screen sits near eye level from the chairs; for a bar-height table or a standing crowd it goes higher, on a tilt mount aimed down. Send a photo from the seats and we mark a height on it before we drill.
Do you hook up the streaming box and Wi-Fi outside?
We mount the TV, run the cables and plug in your streaming stick or box so it shows a picture before we leave. Connecting to Wi-Fi and logging in to apps is yours. If the Wi-Fi is weak on the patio, a mesh point near the door usually fixes it; that is a router change, not a mounting one.
