Siding damage is usually one wall, not the house. A straight-line wind unhooks vinyl on the gable end and it flaps until it tears off. Hail cracks the vinyl on the side that faced the storm and dents the aluminum. Woodpeckers work the same corner of the LP every spring. A downspout that dumps at the wall rots one section of lap siding to the ground. Each of these is a repair: take off the damaged courses, fix what is behind them, put new siding back so it locks into the old.
What is behind the damage matters as much as the face. Wind that tore siding off usually took the house wrap with it. Hail that cracked panels may have opened the seams enough to let water behind. A woodpecker hole in LP that has been open for a season has wet OSB behind it. We repair the wrap, replace soft sheathing, and re-flash the window or the kick-out that caused the rot in the first place before the new siding goes on.
Matching is the honest limit. Vinyl and steel colors change with sun and the profiles get discontinued; we source the closest current match and, when the difference would show, we move original panels from a hidden wall to the front and put the new ones out back. LP and cedar are painted, so a repaired section is repainted to match and disappears.

Situations and options
Wind-damaged vinyl or steel
Loose or missing panels re-hooked or replaced, with the wrap repaired and the panels above re-locked. We check that the remaining panels were nailed loose enough to move, because wind takes the ones that were pinned tight.
Hail-cracked siding
Cracked vinyl and dented aluminum on the storm side, documented with photos for your claim, then replaced wall by wall. Where the color has faded we move originals to the visible wall and install new on the back.
Woodpecker holes in LP or cedar
Holes are cut back to sound material and patched with matching siding or plugged, then primed and painted. We look for the reason too: a hollow-sounding spot, insects under the siding or a corner the bird likes. Deterrents are a separate conversation.
Rotted section at a downspout or grade
The bottom courses rot where water hits them. We replace the sheathing, add flashing and a kick-out where a roof drains onto the wall, keep the new siding clear of grade, and redirect the downspout.

Can you match my existing vinyl siding for a repair?
Often, not always. If the profile is still made we order it in the closest current color; new vinyl is a shade darker than faded vinyl, so on a visible wall we may take original panels from a back or garage wall and put the new ones there instead. Any leftover panels from the original install are the best match, so check the garage rafters before we quote.
Does insurance cover storm damaged siding?
Wind and hail damage to siding is covered by most homeowner policies, subject to your deductible. We document the damage with photos, meet the adjuster if you want us to, and do the repair to the approved scope, with a supplement for anything the scope missed such as house wrap or a matching issue. We do not waive deductibles or promise free siding.
How do you repair woodpecker damage in LP SmartSide siding?
We cut out the damaged area back to solid material and fit a patch of matching LP, or replace the whole lap board if the holes run along it. Caulk-filled holes look bad and the bird comes back to soft caulk. The patch is primed and painted to match. If the wood behind it is wet, that gets replaced first.
Can you replace just one section of siding?
Yes. Vinyl and steel unlock course by course, so one damaged panel can come out and go back without disturbing the wall. Lap siding is cut out at the studs and a new board is slipped in with the nails hidden by the course above. One panel is a small job and we still fix the wrap behind it.
Why did the wind blow my siding off?
Almost always because it was nailed wrong. Vinyl has to hang loose on its nails so it can move with temperature; nailed tight, it buckles, and nailed too loose or with too few nails, it unhooks in a gust. Gable ends and the corners of the windward wall go first. We re-hang the wall with the right nail spacing so the next storm does not take it again.
Do you repaint the repaired siding?
Yes, on painted siding like LP, cedar and fiber cement the patch gets primed and painted to match, quoted as its own line. On a small repair we feather the paint into the old; on a whole wall it looks better to repaint the wall to a corner. Or leave it primed and paint it yourself.
