Pella storm door installation, labor only, across the Twin Cities metro: you buy the Pella storm door at Lowe's and JMB Builders hangs it. We are an independent installer, not a Pella dealer. We take off the old storm door, check the brickmould, mount the hinge rail plumb, fit the rails and sweep to your sill, hang the door and set the closer. Priced per door, quoted from photos, with a reply within one business day.
- Priced per door, labor only
- Full-view, ventilating and Rolscreen models
- Independent installer, not a Pella dealer

Pella sells storm doors through Lowe's alongside its windows and patio doors, and the Twin Cities stores carry full-view, ventilating and retractable-screen styles. The retractable models carry the Rolscreen name, which goes back to the company's start: Pella began as the Rolscreen Company, maker of a roll-away window screen. We install the Pella storm door you bought as a labor-only job. We are an independent installer, not a Pella dealer, and we do not sell the door.
A Pella storm door goes on the face of the brickmould around your entry door, so that trim decides how the job goes. Solid, flat brickmould and a level sill make it a two-to-three-hour job. Split or rotted brickmould has to be fixed first, or the hinge rail pulls loose and the door sags. A retractable-screen door adds one more check: the screen housing has to sit level and the side rails plumb, or the screen rolls crooked.
Before you buy, measure the width between the brickmould at the top, middle and bottom and the height from the sill to the underside of the head trim. Send those numbers and a straight-on photo and we tell you which size and handing to bring home.

What JMB supplies
- A check of your measurements against the Pella size before you buy

- Hinge rail mounted plumb, shimmed where the brickmould is not flat
- Rails, drip cap and bottom sweep fitted to your opening and sill
- Handle, latch, closer and wind chain mounted and adjusted
- Brickmould repair or a new mounting surface when the trim is rotted or missing
- Painting any new trim as its own line on the quote
- Photos of the finished door in your job folder
How it is priced: per door
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:
- A basic ventilating door vs. a full-view or Rolscreen retractable model with more parts and weight
- Whether an old storm door has to come off and its screw holes filled first
- Brickmould condition: solid and square is fast, rotted or narrow is not
- A sill out of level, which changes how the sweep is cut and set
- Vinyl siding with no wood trim, which needs a mounting board built first
- Two storm doors in one visit, front and back
Send a straight-on photo of the entry door from outside, a close-up of the brickmould on the hinge side, and the Pella model name from the box or the Lowe's listing.
How long it takes
One Pella storm door on sound brickmould: two to three hours. A Rolscreen model or an entry that needs trim repair first: about half a day.

Situations and options
Full-view Pella storm doors
One large glass panel with a screen panel you swap in for summer. The glass adds weight, so the hinge rail gets screws into solid wood and the closer is set for the heavier door.
Rolscreen retractable-screen models
The screen rolls into a housing when you are not using it and pulls out when you want air. The housing has to be level and the frame plumb or the screen binds, so we check both before the door is hung.
Ventilating Pella storm doors
Glass that slides down to open a screen section, with nothing to store between seasons. A common pick for a back or side door that gets used all day.
Pella storm door on a vinyl-sided entry
Some newer houses have J-channel where wood brickmould should be, and there is nothing solid for the hinge rail. We build a PVC or wood mounting surface flush with the entry door frame first, sealed to the siding, then hang the door on that.
Pella Storm Door Installation — We Hang the Pella You Bought: questions, answered
Who installs Pella storm doors?
JMB Builders installs Pella storm doors homeowners bought at Lowe's, labor only, across the Twin Cities metro. We are an independent licensed Minnesota contractor, not a Pella dealer. We remove the old storm door, mount the hinge rail plumb, fit the rails and sweep, hang the door and adjust the closer and handle. Priced per door, quoted from photos, with a reply within one business day.
Can you install a Pella storm door I bought at Lowe's?
Yes. Buy the door, bring it home or have it delivered, and keep the box flat and dry in the garage until install day. Do not take the glass panel out of its packing; we do that on site. If you have not bought it yet, send your measurements and a photo first and we confirm the size and handing.
Is a Pella Rolscreen storm door harder to install?
It takes more care than a plain door. The screen rolls in and out of a housing, and if that housing is not level or the side rails are not plumb, the screen tracks crooked and catches. We shim the hinge rail so the frame is true even when the brickmould is not, hang the door, then run the screen in and out several times and adjust before we leave.
How do I measure for a Pella storm door?
Measure the width between the inside edges of the brickmould at the top, middle and bottom, and the height from the sill to the underside of the head trim on both sides. Use the smallest numbers. Storm doors are sold in a few standard sizes with a frame that adjusts a small amount, so if your numbers fall between sizes or the opening is badly out of square, send them with a photo before you buy.
Which side should the hinges go on for my Pella storm door?
Usually the same side as the entry door hinges, so both doors open the same way and the storm door handle sits by the entry door handle. The exceptions are a railing, a wall or a light fixture on that side that the storm door would hit when it swings out. Most Pella storm doors can be set up for either hand on site, so you decide before we start, not before you buy.
Can a Pella storm door go on rotted brickmould?
Not as it is. The hinge rail and closer bracket screw into the brickmould, and soft or split wood will not hold them, so the door sags within a season. We cut out the rotted section and splice in new wood or PVC, or replace the brickmould on that side, then mount the door. Painting the new trim is quoted as its own line, or you can paint it yourself.
