A high value home window hail claim starts with identifying what is in the wall: maker, line, cladding, glass and size of every unit, so the scope prices windows of like kind and quality. JMB Builders documents each unit, meets your adjuster, plans around made-to-order lead times and replaces room by room. You file with your insurer. Twin Cities metro, priced per project. - Priced per project, line by line by opening
- Each unit identified: maker, line, glass, size
- Lead time planned and written on the quote

On a large custom home, the windows are often clad-wood units from a maker's upper lines: aluminum or fiberglass cladding outside, a stained or painted wood interior, specialty glass, custom sizes, mulled walls of units and shapes over the doors. When hail dents that cladding, the question on the claim is not whether there is damage. It is whether the scope prices the same kind of window. A scope written for a basic vinyl unit at a standard size will not buy a clad-wood unit made to your opening.
That starts with identifying every unit. Many windows carry the maker's mark on the glass spacer, an etching in the corner of the glass, or a label on the frame or sash. We record maker, line, cladding, glass and measured size for each opening, number them by elevation, and photograph the damage with a scale reference. The scope then says, line by line, what each opening needs: cladding or sash repair where the maker supports it, a new sash, or a whole unit, plus interior finishing, scaffold or lift access and trim. You file the claim and deal with your insurer; we meet the adjuster when you want us there. Whether the policy pays for like kind and quality, and any deadlines, are questions for your policy and your agent. Negotiating the claim for you is the work of a licensed public adjuster.
Custom units take time to build, so the schedule is planned from the lead time written on the quote. Every opening is measured in person before ordering, and the whole house goes on one order so cladding color and glass match. Installs run room by room, each room closed the same day, with floors, finished millwork and furniture covered. Stained interiors are finished as a separate line to match your existing wood.

How it is priced: per project
Quoted in writing from your photos, with a reply within one business day. What moves the number:

- Maker and line of the existing units, and what like kind and quality means for them
- Repairing cladding or sash where the maker supports it vs. whole units
- Mulled walls of windows, transoms and shapes over doors
- Scaffold or lift access for two-story and great-room walls
- Stained or painted interior finishing to match existing wood
- Lead time depends on the brand and line and is written on the quote

Situations and options
Cladding or sash repair
On some clad-wood units the damaged cladding or sash can be replaced without removing the frame. Whether that is possible depends on the maker and line; the scope says which openings qualify.
Whole units, same maker and line
Where the frame or glass is damaged, the unit is replaced with the same maker and line where it is still made, measured to your opening.
Temporary protection while waiting
Broken glass is covered or boarded right away so the house is weather-tight while custom units are built.
High Value Home Window Hail Claim — Custom Clad-Wood Units: questions, answered
Will insurance replace custom wood windows with the same kind of window?
Many homeowner policies are written to pay for repair or replacement with materials of like kind and quality, but what yours says is a question for your policy and your agent. Our part is showing exactly what is in the wall, maker, line, cladding, glass and size, so the scope can be written for it.
How do you find out who made my windows?
Many windows carry a maker's mark on the glass spacer, an etching in the corner of the glass, or a label on the frame or sash. We check several units per elevation, record what we find, and photograph it for the scope.
Why does the adjuster's estimate show a cheaper window than mine?
Estimates are often written from a standard price list, and a basic unit can end up on a line meant for a custom clad-wood window. A scope that identifies each unit and its size gives you something specific to discuss with your adjuster. That conversation is between you and your insurer.
How long do custom replacement windows take after a hail claim?
Custom clad-wood units are built to order, so they take longer than standard windows. The lead time depends on the maker and line and is written on the quote. Broken glass is covered right away so the house stays weather-tight while you wait.
Can hail dented aluminum cladding be replaced without new windows?
Sometimes. Some makers offer replacement cladding or sash parts for their clad-wood units, and where they do, the frame can stay. Where the parts are not available or the frame or glass is damaged, the whole unit is replaced.
Can a contractor waive the deductible on a large window claim?
No. Minnesota law, Minn. Stat. 325E.66, bars a residential contractor from promising to pay or rebate any part of the insurance deductible, and JMB does not.
