Closet doors are the most abused doors in a house and the cheapest ones the builder could find. Bifolds come off the pivot every time somebody yanks the knob. Bypass doors jump the track because the floor guide broke years ago. Mirrored doors get heavier every year the rollers wear. Most of it is not the door; it is a bent top track, a stripped pivot bracket and a jamb full of old screw holes.
We replace closet doors as a per-opening job. You pick the doors, from a big-box store or through us, and we hang them on new hardware: track screwed into the header, not just drywall, pivots and rollers set so the doors are plumb, floor guides in the right spot, and the jamb patched where the old track pulled out. Whole-house closet door swaps are common on turnovers and after new flooring.

Situations and options
Bifold doors
Two or four panels that fold to one side. Top track, top and bottom pivot brackets, a pivot pin and a guide roller per pair, and an aligner where two pairs meet. We set the pivots so the panels are plumb and fold flat without hitting the casing.
Bypass sliding doors
Two or three panels on a double top track that slide past each other. New rollers and track, a floor guide set so the doors do not swing, and the panels overlapping an inch or so in the middle so there is no gap when closed.
Mirrored bypass doors
Heavy, and the track and rollers have to be rated for the weight. We screw the track into solid header framing, set the floor guide to keep the panels from swinging, and handle the glass carefully.
Pivot-hinged and swing closet doors
Converting a bifold opening to a single or double swing door, or the reverse. Swing doors need a jamb and stop the bifold opening may not have; we build it, hang the doors and case it.

How do I measure for bifold closet doors?
Measure the finished opening, jamb to jamb, at the top and bottom, and the height from the floor to the underside of the head jamb. Bifolds are sold by the opening width they fit: 24, 30, 32, 36 inches for a two-panel set, 48, 60 and 72 for four panels. The doors themselves are a little narrower than the opening so they can fold. Send the numbers and a photo and we confirm before you buy.
Why do my closet doors keep falling off the track?
On bifolds it is almost always a worn or loose top pivot bracket, a bent track, or a bottom pivot that has dropped. On bypass doors it is a broken floor guide letting the panels swing, or rollers that have worn flat. Both are hardware, not door, problems. We replace the track and hardware and reset the doors; if the panels are cracked or delaminating, we replace those too.
Can you install new bypass closet doors on the old track?
We can, but we would rather not. Old track is usually bent at the ends, the rollers are worn and the screws are loose in the header. New doors come with new track and hardware, and the difference in how they slide is night and day. If the old track is in good shape and matches the new rollers, we will tell you and leave it.
Do you replace closet doors after new carpet or flooring?
Yes, and it comes up a lot. New carpet raises the floor and bifolds start dragging; new hard floors lower it and bypass doors swing because the floor guide is now too low. We trim the doors, reset the pivots or lower the guides, or replace the doors if they are not worth cutting.
Can you replace bifold doors with regular swing doors?
Yes. A bifold opening usually has a plain jamb with no stop, so we add a stop and hinge side, hang one or two swing doors, add a catch or a knob and case it. Double swing doors on a 48 or 60 inch closet look better than a four-panel bifold and open the whole closet. Tell us the opening width and we will tell you what fits.
Do you do whole-house closet door replacement?
Yes, and it is the best value per closet. We measure each opening, you pick one door style for the whole house or we supply them, and we swap every closet in a day or two with new hardware throughout. Landlords and property managers use this on turnovers; homeowners do it when the builder-grade doors are done.
