A TV mount leaves more behind than people expect: four to six lag holes, sometimes toggle bolt holes the size of a thumb where someone missed the studs, a pair of in-wall cable plates, and paint that has faded around the outline of the bracket. Spackle in the lag holes alone shows as dimples when the light hits the wall.
We take the TV and bracket down, back out the lags and anchors, and fill each hole in layers so it does not shrink. Big toggle holes get a backed patch. In-wall cable plates come out; the cable is pulled or coiled back into the wall and the opening is closed with a drywall patch or a blank plate. A plug-in style in-wall power kit is removed and its openings patched. If an electrician added a hardwired outlet behind the TV, it stays and gets a proper cover plate.
The wall is sanded, spot primed and left ready for paint, or painted as its own line if you have the color. Landlords and property managers can send several units at once and get them priced per mount.

How do you patch holes after removing a TV mount?
Back out the lags and anchors, fill each hole with a setting or lightweight compound in two or three thin coats so it does not shrink, sand it flat, and spot prime it. Larger holes from toggle bolts or a missed stud get a backed patch first. The wall then needs paint, because patched spots show through the old finish even when they are flat.
What happens to the in-wall cable plates when the mount comes off?
They come out. Low-voltage cables are pulled out or coiled back in the wall, and the openings are either closed with a drywall patch or covered with a blank plate if the next owner may want a TV there. A plug-in style in-wall power kit is removed and patched. A hardwired outlet an electrician installed stays in place with a cover plate.
Should I remove the TV mount before I move out?
If the lease or the purchase agreement says the mount goes with you, or the wall has to be returned as it was, yes. Many buyers want the mount left. For rentals, check the lease: most landlords want the mount off and the holes patched and painted, and unpatched holes come out of the deposit.
Will the wall look new after the TV mount is removed?
After the holes are patched and the wall is painted, yes. The catch is fading: the paint behind a TV often looks different from the paint around it, so touching up only the patches can leave an outline. Painting the wall corner to corner hides it. Painting is its own line on the quote, or leave it primed and paint it yourself.
Can you remove a TV mount from a brick fireplace?
Yes. The sleeve anchors or masonry screws are backed out, and the holes are filled with a mortar or masonry patch colored as close as we can get. The patch blends from across the room; up close, holes in brick face are hard to make disappear completely.
Do you patch TV mount holes in rental units for landlords?
