The 250 Series is Pella's featured vinyl window. Multichambered frames and reinforced sash use a vinyl formulation Pella rates 52% stronger than ordinary vinyl, resisting warping and twisting, and the design puts more glass in each opening than typical vinyl windows. Optional foam insulation in the frame and optional triple-pane glass raise energy performance further.

Frames come in White, Almond or Fossil on both sides, or dual-color with a White interior and Brown or Black exterior; Pella has also announced more exterior colors for its vinyl lines (such as Tan, Hartford Green, Morning Sky Gray, Brick Red and Portobello), so ask what is current. Pella's 52% figure is based on the force required to bend the frame profile.

For budget-conscious replacement projects that still want a national brand's engineering and warranty, the 250 Series is a strong value: no painting, no staining, and the Pella Limited Lifetime Warranty. It is sold through Pella showrooms, dealers and Lowe's.

Insulation and energy performance in Minnesota

Vinyl does not conduct heat, and the 250 Series adds multiple frame chambers and optional foam fill, so a well-ordered unit insulates close to more expensive lines. For Minnesota, order the foam-insulated frame with AdvancedComfort Low-E, and add triple-pane where the budget allows.

Glass packages

  • Low-E insulating dual-pane glass with argon (standard)
  • AdvancedComfort Low-E for the Northern climate
  • NaturalSun Low-E and SunDefense Low-E options
  • Optional 1-inch triple-pane glass
  • Optional between-the-glass grilles; tempered and obscure glass where required

Frame and sash

Multichambered vinyl frame with reinforced sash and optional foam insulation in the chambers; fusion-welded corners. Weatherstripped sash with cam-action locks on hung and sliding units.

Ratings

ENERGY STAR® certified packages are available, including the Northern zone with the right glass package (foam frame and AdvancedComfort or triple-pane). U-factors by unit and glass are on the NFRC label and in Pella's 250 Series literature.

What the install adds

On install day we set the unit on a sloped sill pan, tape the flanges or brickmould to the housewrap with flashing tape, fill the rough-opening gap with low-expansion foam, and seal the interior with backer rod and sealant before trim goes on. The exterior joint gets backer rod and sealant too, so the rating on the label is what the wall actually gets.
